Starwood's Gift of Strength May 13, 2002 - March 16, 2006 Sampson came to live with us with the intention of him being my first conformation Dalmatian. Although an adorable and energetic puppy, at 7 weeks Sampson was already bigger than his brother and sisters, but I loved his big eyes and soft face. As all puppies do, he grew bigger and bigger and I showed him for his first time at 6 months. It was fun showing a puppy in the puppy class – 4 little boys running around the ring. We won our first-ever conformation ribbon at Cleveland Christmas Cluster in Dec. 2003 (yep - I was crazy). Sampson had a very natural disposition for the conformation ring, went in with anyone who had food. At 9 months, I decided to send him down to his breeder, Joni Shoup, to be shown in the Southern circuit during the winter months up north. She called me almost immediately to tell me that Sampson was over sized and probably couldn’t be shown in conformation any more. So, that began his obedience and agility career. We have been training in obedience and agility for almost two years now. We’ve gone through the AKC Canine Good Citizenship program as well as ATTS’s Temperament Test and earned those titles. He’s not quite ready for the obedience ring because of his playfulness. I’ve been told that male Dalmatians can take some time to mature. For now, I decided to put him in the AKC Rally Obedience, which is a simpler means of obedience with a little flavor of agility thrown in. He earned his Rally Novice (RN) title in 2005. In March 2006, I suddenly lost my Sampson. I miss having his silly antics around the house. Good night my big, beautiful boy. I look forward to seeing you when I cross Rainbow Bridge.
